The goals and objectives of this Sub-Committee will be to promote international trade law, policy and practice within the local and regional legal profession, but also within regional and international dispute resolution spaces, mainly, but not solely, by providing a regular forum for collaboration among practitioners and other stakeholders regarding developments in the law and practice.

The following will be the initial objectives of the International Trade Law Sub-Committee:

  1. To promote the practice of international trade law within Jamaica and the member states of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy.
  2. To create and maintain a database or knowledge resource of relevant trade measures (that is, laws, regulations, or administrative practices, including private standards, and guidelines with government involvement) impacting outbound and inbound trade in the region.
  3. To articulate informed positions or views on matters of international trade law and policy regarding developments in the law, and with respect to existing or proposed measures by CARICOM Members or CARICOM trading partners.
  4. To prepare and conduct presentations on relevant matters of international trade law, practice or policy at Jamaica Bar Association seminars and conferences.
  5. To prepare and have published information concerning matters of international trade law, practice or policy.
